All girls are excluded and permitted to miss gym class while in their period. It’s pretty obvious that physical exercises and sudden movements should be avoided while girl are in their period.
A study conducted back in 2018 states that “Normal fluctuations in hormones during the menstrual cycle alter neurotransmitters that are responsible for a variety of functions, including mood, libido, appetite, anxiety, emotion, pain, and pleasure.
“ Also, “the changes and relative levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone throughout the menstrual cycle, including during the period itself, are also responsible for many of the changes women notice (such as breakouts, breast tenderness, etc).”
Here are some other stuff you should avoid to not make the bad period even worse.
Getting a breast exam
The same study says that “Fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone can make both breast exams and mammograms more uncomfortable. Additionally cystic breast changes are more likely to be palpated on an exam – it can unnecessarily raise a red flag. While monthly breast exams are a very good idea, don’t set your alarm to the first few days of heavy flow.”
Eat a lot of dairy products
Because during period the body is much more gassier, you should exclude or reduce to minimum the intake of dairy proteins. They make you even more bloated and hold the water and other liquids inside the body.
Getting a wax depilation
Due to the period, the body’s receptors for pain and tenderness are extremely sensitive, and you should never consider getting wax-ed during your period
Don’t use personal hygiene products, douche gels and soaps during periods, because they can disrupt the normal vaginal flora. Just a regular water douche is suitable for this period.
Never wear a pad or a tampon for more than 4 hours
Though you’re in the last days of your period, and the pad is still “clean”, consider changing it. Just because there’s not blood on the pad or the tampon, that doesn’t mean it’s clean from other bacteria. And during period, the body is mostly affected due to the loss of blood and immunity.
Drink a lot of coffee
Caffeine is proved to high the chances of discomfort, period cramps and abdominal pain, as it constricts the blood vessels.
Smoke a lot of cigarettes
Smoking is a bad habit, but even if you’re a passionate smoker, consider smoking less during the period, because it can also worsen the menstrual cramps.
Eat salty foods
Salty foods make the similar effect as eating a lot of dairy products – they keep the fluids inside the body, making you look and feel even more bloated. That can even worsen the menstrual cramps, because the bloated gut makes an additional pressure to your ovaries.
