Kim Kardashian Reveals She Felt Pressure to Get Married

Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries was meticulously documented (and ridiculed) by the entire world. The coverage of their brief relationship was inherently misogynistic: Because Kardashian didn’t live up to the “wedded bliss” expectation society still creates for women, people felt entitled to mock her. Thankfully, that pressure is slowly dissolving—but Kardashian says she absolutely felt it back then. It’s a huge reason why she married Humphries in the first place.

During the reality TV star’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Sunday (May 28), Andy Cohen asked her if she thought her 2011 marriage to Humphries was forever, and her answer was revealing in more ways than one.

“At the time I just thought, ‘Holy sh-t, I’m 30 years old. I better get this together. I better get married,'” she said. “I think a lot of girls do go through that, where they freak out thinking they’re getting old and all their friends are having kids. So, it was more of that situation. But I knew on the honeymoon it wasn’t going to work out.”
